Hi, my name is Eugene and I've just completed requirements for a BSc. in Electrical
Engineering with the Co-op/Internship Option at the University of Alberta.
Welcome to eugenechen.ca.

I wanted to work my upper body and thought this would be a fun, interesting project that could be used to generate student interest in neat, easily reproducible tech projects. Similar to Guitar Hero, I think this can reach a new market and reach out to existing, health-conscious, kick-boxing curious or loving consumers.
The video is available in YouTube, and I've actually had people try this. I'm likely going to use this as a fundraising tool within my Engineering, and I'll likely put up a new video reflecting this. Check back soon!
The Founding of inspireUP! (www.inspireUP.com)
inspireUP! (inspire Unlimited Potential!) is an organization whose purpose is to promote the ideals and benefits of peer-assisted success by creating and incentivizing opportunities for such partnerships.
Imagine the effect from the members rooted with such mindsets.
Incredible people who have been helped by others to where they are -
returning to help other people succeed. Tremendous good can be done,
and in time, a network of thoughtful, capable leaders can be built
and the potential for even larger, impactful change grows as well.
Our first event, Secrets to a 4.0 GPA, went quite well, and we're looking to do more! Check out our site at www.inspireUP.com!
Graduate Engineering Project Management
Typically, I wouldn't update on progress on courses here, but, given
the time, effort and result from taking this course,
I'm going to :)
ENG M 530 (Engineering Project Management) is a graduate-level course that
I took to learn more about Project Management Institute's (PMI) Project Mangement
Professional (PMP) certification, and to learn more project management
tips, tricks and tools.
Our major assignment for the course was to create a Project Management Plan for an
activity - and after taking on the Project Manager role for our team (one was
required for each team) as well as after *countless hours* at work... I got an A+
for the course, but perhaps more importantly, we topped the class with our
100% mark for our 184 page plan! I'm proud of the work we did :)
Presentation at HPAIR, Beijing
Having submitted my report on our wireless future (available here)
as my paper application to the HPAIR Academic Conference (Harvard Project for Asian and Internationl Relations) in Beijing, China,
I presented my report, findings, and conclusion to various delegates that came from around the world.
Of particular interest during my travels in China was the wireless
local Chinese mobile industry - companies we've never heard of creating
lines of phones.
Microsoft - Program Management at VSTS, Team Dev
This was... Intense :)
*So much* went on this term: I loved the work and the people across
the various teams. Coupled between various
additional projects, forum, and a design competition,
Summer at Microsoft just by itself was an additional blast with the
horde of intense interns! The free Zune was a nice touch too :)
Also, the opportunity to meet Bill Gates and
Steve Ballmer... helped affirm the belief in our potential
to help make real and positive changes for people around the world
through the work that we do.
I'm glad that my last official co-op work term was done here:
the experience of the challenging work, supportive, brilliant and
*passionate* team members who believe in the work that they do and
the people we ultimately help - it's truly breathtaking, and
I'm very thankful for the opportunity.
Microsoft - Program Management at IDS (Windows Live ID)
It's been an extremely busy month for me; immediately following HPAIR and HCABF 2006, I had to prepare for Microsoft by getting
my emergency U.S. Visa to start my internship with Microsoft!
A week in, I'm glad I'm finally here. I'm interning as a Program Manager (PM) with IDS, Identity Services, more recognizably under the branch of Windows Live.
From the sounds of it, it'll be a busy but very interesting few months ahead of me, since what we'll be doing will likely effect you - I'm looking forward to help make it better for you!
Earlier in 2006, I applied for the
Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) Academic
Conference to be held in Singapore and the Harvard College Asian Business Forum 2006 (HCABF) in India.
From the conferences, I've put together one page for HPAIR 2006 and another for HCABF 2006.
